Sound Systems for Functions

When throwing an event, it’s difficult to know exactly what sound system you’ll need; there are always various factors you’ll need consider before sending out an RSVP.

Here at STLS events we can’t tell you what’s going to be best for you, but we’ve got the next best thing: a quick guide to help you understand what does what, so that you can make an informed decision yourself.

A good soundystem is the cornerstone of any good function. Whether it’s a fundraiser or a wedding, nothing gets the good times flowing like a bit of music.

Passive Speakers

If you’re going to be running music from an iPod rather than having a band of DJ then you will only need passive speakers. The “Martin Audio Blackline range” will be the perfect fit here and will suit a wide range of occasions.

Active Speakers

If you’re going to have a DJ or band then you will need active speakers and, depending on the scale of the event your holding, we have a variety of different options that might suit.

If it’s going to a small sized event, then you won’t need anything more than the EX 10s KV2 or the EX 2.2 KV2. Both of these systems will suffice for background music or a more intimate affair.

The next step up will be the DAP. This provides a little more power than the EX model and will be all you need for a medium sized event.

If you’re going to be throwing a full-blown party and really need something to take the roof off then the Electro Voice system is going to be the best option. It’s perfect for DJs and live bands – basically any event where the music is going to be the focus of the evening.

Sound Desks and Other Audio Equipment

The speaker isn’t all you need to think about when throwing an event. Especially if it’s a corporate event or a wedding you’re putting on, rather than just a party, you might need to think about further equipment.

Regardless of what kind of event you’re going to be throwing there is always a strong chance someone is going to be making a speech and if this is the case, you’ll need a mic. Whether it’s for a best man’s speech or for a compere at a fundraiser, a wireless radio mic with a good quality of sound is going to be key.
