Epsom Clock Tower LED Upgrade

After temporarily lighting the Epsom Clock tower in 2020 for the NHS we were delighted to work on this project for Epsom Council . STLS, was approached by the Epsom Borough Council to upgrade the lighting system of the iconic Epsom Clock Tower as part of its refurbishment as a permanent solution. The Epsom Clock Tower, is a significant landmark in the community and has been a part of our town’s heritage since it was built in 1847. It is a well-known landmark and is loved by locals and visitors alike. However, the old lighting system was outdated and in need of an upgrade to improve visibility and energy efficiency. STLS was able to complete the upgrade using state-of-the-art LED technology, which provides better illumination and consumes less energy than the previous system. This upgrade has not only improved the appearance of the clock tower but has also reduced energy costs and carbon emissions, making it a win-win situation for both the community and the environment.

STLS proposed a LED upgrade using high-quality fixtures and a touch screen control system to provide efficient and effective lighting for the tower.

The brief; Easy to use multipurpose LED solution

Challenge: The Epsom Clock Tower is a historic landmark and an important part of the local community. The challenge for STLS was to upgrade the lighting system without compromising its historic value while providing energy-efficient and cost-effective lighting. STLS had to design a lighting system that enhances the architectural beauty of the tower, while incorporating full colour changing for special events.

The gear; ensuring the highest lighting quality

Solution: STLS proposed to install ArcPod 15 fixtures from prolights, the unit is equipped with 15x10W RGBW / FC LEDs, delivering an exceptional output over than 5’900 lumens and a wide gamut of colours and whites. The slim sizing, as well as the wide range of available optics, makes the ArcPod 15Q an incredibly flexible architectural fixture for large outdoor installs as accent light or for smaller-sized projects. This was perfect to replace the existing lighting system. These fixtures are designed to provide high-quality light output, long life, and low energy consumption. The ArcPod 15 fixtures were carefully installed to highlight the intricate details of the tower and provide an even illumination across the surface.

For control, STLS implemented a touch screen Pharos system that allows for remote monitoring and control of the lighting system. The Pharos system enables lighting designers to create dynamic lighting effects that can be programmed for, events, and holidays. The system can also be controlled by an app, allowing for easy management of the lighting system.
